Talks and Treks 2009: Canandaigua Lake and the Seneca Nation

Co-sponsored with the Vine Valley Community House. Peter Jemison, manager of the Ganondagan State Historic Site, will talk about the significance of the lands at the south end of Canandaigua Lake to the Seneca Nation. Direction to the Community House: From Rt. 364 north of Middlesex, go east on N. Vine Valley Rd. After the road makes a 180-degree turn, look for the Community House across from the United Methodist Church.
Talks and Treks 2009: A Geologic Tour of Conklin Gully

Join geologist John Cottrell of Monroe Community College in an exploration of the lower portion of this beautiful gully south of Canandaigua Lake. This is a fairly rigorous walk. Sturdy shoes are needed and feet may get wet. Directions: From Rts. 5 and 20 in Canandaigua, take Rt. 364 south to Middlesex, then turn right on Rt. 245 south to Parish Hill Rd on your left. Park near the gully entrance on Parish Hill Rd.

Join tracker and naturalist Linda Spielman to discover what's been visiting this preserve. Directions: From Rt. 17, take exit 49. Go south on Olcott Rd. Turn right on Rt. 64, then right on Rt. 352, take next left on So. Corning Rd. Cross bridge and go left on Steege Hill Rd. for 1.1 miles. Parking area is on the left, near gas pipeline.

Mycologist Kathie Hodge will once again lead us through this preserve to learn about mushroom identification and much more! Bring a hand lens and field guide if you have them. Group size limited. Please call 607-275-9487 to register. Directions: From Ithaca, follow Ellis Hollow Rd. 2.5 miles past East Hill Plaza. Turn left on Genung Rd., then right on Ellis Hollow Creek Rd. Preserve entrance is 0.2 miles past intersection, on left hand side of road.
