DESCRIPTION
Cohosted by the Land Trust and the New York State Hemlock Initiative (NYSHI). Join educators from the Land Trust and NYSHI to learn how to identify a major threat to the health of the eastern hemlock in the Finger Lakes region. The hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) is an aphid-like invasive insect that poses a serious threat to hemlock trees in eastern North America. At this workshop you will learn how to identify HWA and how to input your findings on the iMap Invasives website. You can download the app for your smart phone here: http://www.imapinvasives.org/mobile-tools
After the training session, participants are welcome to join instructors at the Ellis Hollow Nature Preserve for an identification walk. Please dress appropriately and wear proper footwear. If there is deep snow please consider bringing snowshoes. Light snacks, tea and coffee will be provided during the training.
