Nigel Kent of Rochester, Monroe County, NY.
What is your volunteer role at the Finger Lakes Land Trust? What kinds of work do you do here?
I was first involved with the FLLT during the Grimes Glen effort. I supplied many pictures of the Glen to Betsy Landre (then of the FLLT) and they were used to raise funds. I’m a photographer — I like to get into the heart and soul of the property.
How long have you been involved as a volunteer?
Since 2005.
Why do you volunteer?
It’s my way of giving something back. If it weren’t for the FLLT and other land trusts, we’d all be surrounded by blacktop and malls. By donating my time and effort, I feel like I’m part of the big picture.
What’s your favorite FLLT activity and/or preserve? Why?
The Sweedler Preserve/Lick Brook. Because it’s totally wild and natural with no signs of man. Hiking the Lick Brook stream from the top of the first falls to the big falls is my favorite part.
